  • DOMINANT AND DEMOTIC SCHOOL CULTURE: ANALYSIS OF TENSION FIELDS (2014-2015)

The cultural policy of comprehensive schools is aimed to explore within this project while putting the accents onto modern world's socio-cultural challenges, changing roles of school participants, and their relations. The aim of this project is to reveal the links and intersections among teachers' dominant culture from the above and students' demotic culture from the bottom. Both theoretical: scientific data analysis, documents' analysis and interpretation; and empirical (ethnographical) schools' culture: semi-structured students/teachers/administration staff interview, observation, audio and video media analysis, fixation of artefacts and visualization of spaces researches are taken into account. Schools' cultural tension fields are analyzed through the following aspects: space and time, school rituals and symbols, discourse and artefacts. Summary of the research in English.

  • IDENTITY, CULTURAL TRANSMISSION AND NATIONAL EDUCATION (2010)

The aim of the project is to evaluate the dependence of national education policy of XXI century on supranational education policy and to define the influence of national education policy on the formation of cultural identity in a multi cultural society. Cultural identity within the framework of this project is understood as identity related to language, nation, religion, social and gender status and relationship with pop culture. The Project is targeted at analysis of essential questions important for Lithuanian education: (in)dependence of national education policy on supranational education policy; the influence of changing cultural transmission on cultural identity formalion; school culture change trajectories and perspectives.

RESEARCH PROJECTS CARRIED OUT IN 2010
  • NATIONAL AND GLOBAL EDUCATION POLICY

The theoretical and empirical researches in this field were conducted in 2010. Summarizing the results of the year it can be said that the research was aimed at analysis of changes in Lithuanian education policy and management while implementing the EU and Lithuanian strategic goals. Some data of theoretical and empirical research were included into the monography of L.Duoblienė “Ideologizuotos švietimo kaitos teritorijos” (Ideologization of territories of educational changes, 2010) G. Purvaneckienė, I. Stonkuvienė and others „Moteris fiziniuose ir technologijos moksluose: moksleivė, studentė, mokslininkė“ (Woman in physical and technological sciences: female pupil, female student, female scientist”, 2010), V. Targamadzė „Alternatyvi bendrojo lavinimo mokykla: naratyvo kontūrai“ (Alternative education in gender schools: countours of the narrative, 2010).The data of the research conducted in 2010 were disseminated in republican and international conferences.

 

RESEARCH PROJECTS CARRIED OUT IN 2005- 2009

  • INTERCULTURAL EDUCATION IN THE PERSPECTIVE OF GLOBALIZATION

Striving to define preconditions for optimisation of contemporary school learners and students' intercultural education, the theoretical and empirical researches in this field were further conducted in 2009. The sample of 600 senior school learners from general education secondary schools and gymnasiums was researched to highlight changes in learners‘ intercultural education under conditions of intensive globalisation. The research aimed to highlight attitudes of contemporary school learners to peculiarities of change in national, common cultural and religious values; changes in emotional experiences related to these values and changes in tendencies of behaviour that practically externalises these values. The value-based orientations of higher education students and tendencies in dynamics of factors determining such orientations were also among focuses of the research. Some data of theoretical and empirical research were included into the monograph “Lietuvos švietimo politikos transformacijos“ (2009) (Transformations in Lithuanian Education Policy) collectively prepared in the Department, other results will serve as basis for the teaching aid “Change in Values and Education,” which is being prepared now. The data of the research conducted in 2009 were disseminated in republican and international conferences.

  • EDUCATION MANAGEMENT IN THE PERSPECTIVE OF SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT

The reseach in this theme was conducted in 2005-2009. Summarizing the results of the final year of 2009 it can be said that the research was aimed at analysis of changes in Lithuanian education policy and management while implementing the EU and Lithuanian strategic goals. The results of research were presented at many national and international conferences.

PROJECTS CARRIED OUT IN 2005- 2007

· In 2006-2007 the Education Policy Center is coordinating RE:FINE project "Monitoring Drop-outs and Private Tutoring: Public Awareness and Policy Advocacy Campaigns".

· In 2005-2006 the Education Policy Center coordinated activities of the Network of Education Policy Centers (supported by OSI ESP).

· In 2005-2006 the Education Policy Center coordinated two international monitoring projects: “Monitoring Drop-outs” and “Monitoring Private Tutoring”.
